- Bhagidari Vs Hissedari
It is said that the representation of any community should be in accordance with its population and it is also iterated by Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and former PM Late Indira Gandhi.
The population of Muslims in Karnataka is close to 13% (Census 2011) and as on date it is approximately 14.28, whereas the Congress gave it representation of only 9 Members in the Assembly 3 Members in Council.
With these statistics, the representation of Muslims is highly negligible in both the houses.
MUSLIM VOTES VS CONGRESS’S POLITICS
It is to be noted that the Muslim Community voted enmasse to Congress in Karnataka recently resulting in the grand old party to attain majority in the Assembly. It is also said that about 85% of the Muslim Community has voted Congress.
Combining Vote Share of Communities: Vokkaliga 24% + Kuruba 63% + Lingayat 30% = 35.6%
Muslim Community Alone has Voted 80% which is more than all the major communities together
RECENT MLC Elections/Nominations
In a recent development, three names were finalized for Legislative Council nominations in Karnataka under Education and Social Services Category: M.R. Seetharam, HP Sudham Das and Mansoor Ali Khan, but Khan’s name was dropped out of the list and replaced by actress Umashree, a close aide of Siddaramaiah.
Reportedly this replacement stemmed from an ego clash between Congress leaders, Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar, resulting in a Question if Mansoor Khan was repeatedly being made a scapegoat.
With the dropping of the Muslim’s name from the list of MLCs nomination, the community is seemingly upset.
